Teaching Fellow North Star Academy
Mr. Robertson has worked with disadvantaged youth throughout his life, including counseling homeless children and tutoring non-native English speakers. He worked as a teacher in East Harlem for three years where he taught seventh and eighth graders language arts and Spanish and co-founded a running club.
After working as a teacher, Spencer helped launch Anchor, Inc., a non-profit which added a boarding component to independent and parochial schools for at-risk youth. He then served as a program officer at the Tiger Foundation, supporting after-school programs and early child development initiatives.
In addition to his professional commitments in Newark, NJ, Spencer serves as a mentor to students through the TEAK Fellowship and Student Sponsor Partnership. Spencer holds a BA from Duke University and an MBA from Stanford University.
In July 2006, Spencer completed the year-long Building Excellent Schools Fellowship preparing him to design and build an excellent charter school that will serve students in New York City.
