NEW YORK, August 24, 2010 — In the short time since the release of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), more than half of the states have adopted them, and many are expected to follow suit in the coming months. Children’s Progress, an award-winning educational software company specializing in Pre-K – 3 computer-based assessment, has ensured that its flagship product, the Children’s Progress Academic Assessment (CPAA), is aligned to the CCSS for the new school year.
“The unprecedented release of a set of common benchmarks for K-12 by the National Governor’s Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers marks a big step forward in education reform,” said Kevin Greaney, CEO and co-founder of Children’s Progress. “We are excited to be able to quickly respond to this development with an aligned version of our assessment.”
For states that have not officially adopted the CCSS, the individual-state aligned CPAA is still accessible. Both versions are available at no extra cost.
“The CPAA has always been aligned to individual state standards,” said Greaney. “When we heard of common standards in the works, we made sure that our software was ready for this change. This way our clients in states that adopt these new standards can have access to aligned assessment tools right away. Our goal has always been to be flexible and move quickly to meet the needs of educators.”
Created by an internal team of early education specialists, the CPAA uses an MIT-patented scaffolding structure to quickly pinpoint each student’s strengths and weaknesses. The program then provides instant reports for educators, including recommended activities for instruction and intervention.
As younger children learn differently from those in older grades, the Children’s Progress team makes sure that all elements of the assessment program are designed to be child-friendly, engaging, and most importantly, supportive. The program offers encouraging feedback as students proceed from one question to the next.
Schools, districts and state agencies nationwide have used the CPAA to identify student learning needs and provide teachers with immediate feedback to drive instruction. This program assesses Early Literacy and Mathematics concepts with two separate versions for public and independent schools, as well as a version in Spanish for English-language learners.
