New York, NY, August 20, 2009 – Today, Children’s Progress announced that it was named by Inc. Magazine as one of America’s fastest-growing private companies on the annual Inc. 500 list. The list represents a comprehensive look at America’s independent-minded entrepreneurs. Companies such as Microsoft, Zappos, Under Armour, Jamba Juice, American Apparel and Oracle gained early exposure as members of the Inc. 500.

Award recipients were chosen based on revenue growth from 2005 to 2008. With 3-year growth of 854 percent (as compared to an industry benchmark of 26.42 percent), NYC-based Children’s Progress was ranked number 267 in the US overall, number 3 in education and number 19 in the NYC metro area.

“Inc. Magazine has a long-standing reputation of supporting entrepreneurs who are game-changers in their field and we are honored to be recognized as part of this year’s list,” said Children’s Progress CEO and co-founder Kevin Geaney. “We founded Children’s Progress with the mission to improve the century-old way in which children are assessed. Our tremendous growth is an indicator of the fact that we’ve brought the right product to market to meet this important need and help improve our education system.”

Children’s Progress has developed from a Columbia University portfolio company with 3 employees to a thriving midtown-based business serving schools and districts in 39 states. Just over the last 3 years, the number of customers served by Children’s Progress has increased by more than 700%. The company continues to develop computer-based products in an effort to help teachers reach each child.

“If you want to know which companies are going to change the world, look at the Inc. 500,” said Inc. editor Jane Berentson. “These are the most dynamic, fast-growth companies in the nation, the ones finding innovative solutions to problems, creating smart systems, and inventing products we soon discover we can’t live without. The Inc. 500 list is Inc. magazine’s tribute to American business ingenuity and ambition.”

This year’s Inc. 500 list, released in the September issue of Inc. magazine and on Inc.com, reported aggregate revenue of $18.4 billion split among the winners (up from last year’s $13.7 billion, even in spite of the economic downturn). This year’s winners have also been responsible for creating more than 55,000 jobs, exemplifying the positive impact that private, fast-growing companies can have on the U.S. economy.
